White Room: Russell Nachman

May 3–June 9, 2002 320 West 13th Street White Room

Press Release

Russell Nachman will present works on paper in gouache that depict imagined landscapes. The series entitled Nostalgic Future presents amalgamations of elements borrowed from disparate sources including sci-fi and action movies, theoretical and actual architecture, and memories of the house the artist grew up in. Simultaneously futuristic and retrospective, these scenes defy easy categorization of time or place. Works will also be shown from Power Converters, a series of paintings modeled after the covers of science fiction pulp novels from the 1960s and ’70s. Nachman received his MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute, and his BFA from Colorado State University. He lives and works in Brooklyn.
