Press Release
In our Project space White Columns is proud to present the first solo exhibition by the Bay Area-based artist Jason Brinkerhoff (b. 1974). For his exhibition Brinkerhoff will present an installation of thirty-eight framed works on paper, hung salon-style. Using blank, antiquarian book pages as their support, Brinkerhoff’s ‘portraits’ – of persons unknown, self-consciously acknowledge – and collide – the multiple ruptures of twentieth century modernism. Through an almost excessive process of research, referencing, citation and adaption, Brinkerhoff’s ahistorical ‘hybrids’, each part drawing-part collage, create an aesthetic dissonance between the past and the present.
White Columns presented Jason Brinkerhoff’s work at the 2011 NADA art fair in Miami, his work was included in ‘Grasping For Relics’ a group show at ZieherSmith, New York (2011) – who also recently hosted ‘Other Bodies’ an exhibition of found photographs drawn from Brinkerhoff’s personal collection.
