Exhibition Description
Combining a painterly use of color with real physical objects, Alfred Martinez exhibited seven works and a series of drawings, pastel on canvas, 5×6′. The artist showed Chair Piece; Umbrella Piece, six gessoed umbrellas mounted on the wall, 7×13′; Coil Fence Piece, a metal fence with plastic coating, free-standing on the floor 4×3′ in diameter; Lucinda Pipe Piece, a painted galvanized steel pipe, 21’x1 1/4′; 360 coat hangers painted yellow, white, and grey; six painted ironing boards arranged sequentially out from the wall; and a fence piece made with stockade fence.
