May 3–June 9, 2002 320 West 13th Street White RoomPress Release
Kim Collmer also creates imaginary landscapes in her videos. Inspired by science fiction and urban cities, these fantastical places are created with ordinary materials, including cotton, beads, clay and ice. Collmer’s videos are created through the use of stop motion animation. Each pieces was shot frame by frame using a Bolex film camera, then digitized and edited using Media 100. Although edited on a computer, there are no digital special effects used in their production. The sound tracks are created by recordings, keyboard and CD samples, edited and manipulated both through an analog and digital studio. A graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Collmer lives and works in Chicago.
