A conversation between Piero Penizzotto and Kiara Ventura Cristina, on the occasion of Penizzotto’s debut solo exhibition at White Columns.

Piero Penizzotto is a Peruvian-American artist born and based in Queens, NY. Penizzotto’s practice, primarily sculpture and painting, is presented as an ode to the friendships and communities he is a part of growing up in New York and South Florida. He recently graduated from Hunter College with honors with a Bachelor’s in Fine Art. Previous exhibitions include Court Tree Collective Gallery, Brooklyn (2023) and Public Access Gallery, New York (2022).

Kiara Cristina Ventura is a Bronx-native Dominican American writer, independent curator, and owner of the roving curatorial platform, Processa. Ventura founded Processa in 2015 and opened its physical space in 2021, which serves as an experimental studio and programming space. Her practice focuses on creating dialogue with contemporary artists, especially those from underrepresented communities in the art world. Ventura often speaks on themes of healing, spirituality, ritual, street culture, and intuitive processes. She has curated at The Museum of the African Diaspora San Francisco, The Bronx Art Space, Vis Arts Maryland, Penn State University, The Longwood Gallery at Hostos, The Andrew Freedman Home, Reparations Club LA, NXTHVN, and Sean Kelly Gallery. Her writing has appeared in Artforum, Performa Mag, Aperture, Cultured, Teen Vogue, and Latina. She was a NXTHVN 2022-23 Curatorial Fellow.
