White Columns is pleased to present a solo exhibition by the artist and musician Amy Sheffer (b. 1945, Great Neck, NY.) The exhibition has been organized in collaboration with Matt Werth of the pioneering New York-based record label RVNG Intl. A visual artist, composer and musician, Sheffer resides in Great Neck, Long Island, where she makes vivid, quasi-surrealist paintings inflected with a distinct lyricism. In her multilayered compositions, Sheffer combines dreamlike motifs teeming with scenes of wild and domestic animals, bodily forms and the artist herself, all suffused with the sense of a dense, ecstatic psychological realm that threatens to spill over into the world of the mundane. Her exhibition at White Columns is the artist’s first solo show in New York.

I Am Shee, Original Recordings: 1979-1987, an anthology of Sheffer’s music, will be released alongside the exhibition by Freedom to Spend / RVNG Intl.

Theo Baransky, Hallmark Hall Of Fame, 2024. Acrylic paint on Duralar, 11 x 14 in.

White Columns is pleased to present Films for Friends, an exhibition by Theo Baransky (b. 2003, Ithaca, NY). Baransky is currently affiliated with Studio Route 29, a Frenchtown, NJ-based progressive arts studio centering the creative practices and perspectives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Baransky’s practice extends from his encyclopedic knowledge of the film industry — not only of movies themselves, but also of the production companies and studios that license and distribute them. Primarily taking the form of paintings of logos of the studios and distribution outlets like HBO, DreamWorks, etc. Baransky’s paintings are a distillation of the whole of filmmaking into the images that materialize just before a movie starts.

Restricted, a publication of Baransky’s work, will be co-published by White Columns and Beauty Books of Studio Route 29 in conjunction with the exhibition.
